Background

A lifelong music fan, I first found my voice by translating Rammstein lyrics as a teenager. The hours I spent poring over all the German songs as I could get my hands on proved to be terrific practice for the linguistic challenges I would later encounter in my professional life. After leaving high school, I went on to study at Portland State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in German Language and Literature, Applied Linguistics, and Music History. In 2014, I spent time at the Goethe Institut in Berlin, where I was able to put my language skills to the test both in the classroom and at the nearby Weihnachstmarkt after a long day of studying.
